Week 3 Blog
I know that we talked about how we must write a paper on a book that we have read in the past and I was shocked to see that almost everyone did not like to read. Even though I was that person not too long ago; I expected there to be a few people who enjoyed reading for fun. Then I realized we are all here for the same reason, to improve writing and I think that writing and reading fall under the same category. I did not begin to talk until about first or second grade, an even after that I was in speech therapy for a few more years. I am not sure if it is because of that that I struggle with reading and writing, but I have also had a hard time concentrating. It took almost 25 years to find books and topics that I enjoyed reading.
A few years after high school I started looking into different ways to better myself. I found myself reading a lot of small articles about fitness and health that I would come across on the internet. I was watching motivational and inspirational documentaries and listening to a few different podcasts. After figuring out what I was passionate about I started diving deeper into my purpose. Then someone told me to look into different self-help books, and that is exactly what I did. I found a book by Rachel Hollis called, Girl, Wash Your Face and I was shocked when I realized how fast I finished it. I took so much out of that book, that I became infatuated with the amount of knowledge I could take out of other books. I really hope that you guys find that one book that changes your perspective on reading.

Maggie,
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you found the self-help books and that they sparked you to continue reading! I told all of you the story about my son getting the spark to read in his senior year of high school when he had to read King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. That sure wouldn't have interested me, but I thank his English teacher to this day that she found his niche, because now he reads whenever he has a minute to himself!
Hi Maggie,
ReplyDeleteI also enjoy reading self-help books. So far, those are one of the few topics that I enjoy reading. I am still on the search of finding that book that will change my perspective on reading. If you have any book recommendations let me know.
